Wards are orphan children who are raised by the staff of the Castle belonging to the Fief of their birth. Orphaned either by the deaths of parents or abandonment and with no known direct family to care for them, wards are taken to a castle orphanage where they are cared for by the Baron of their Fief and his castle staff, apparently living a more or less normal life together with fellow wards, many of whom gain sibling-like relationships with each other. At the age of 15, the wards must proceed to their Choosing Day, where they decide what trade they will take up and follow if they are accept by the master of their chosen trade.
