Walter Scar is a criminal brigand who operated within the borders of Redmont Fief for several months alongside a band of three other criminals lead by Barton 'Bearkiller' before being captured by Rangers Will Treaty and Madelyn 'Regale'.

History[]

Sometime during his life, Walter became a criminal and became a member of the infamous brigand, Barton the 'Bearkiller's band. With two other bandits — One-Eyed Jem and Donald — Barton and Walter began to operated in Redmont Fief. The gang eventually gained some notoriety in the district for preying on and attacking not just small villages and farmers returning from and going to the farming market, but also multiple elderly men, all of whom had been outnumbered four to one and became responsible for half a dozen beatings, all of which had left their victims bruised and bleeding. However, the gang only preyed on isolated victims, and, if the victim in question was travelling in groups or guarded, the band would allow their intended victims to pass unhindered, as, though their leader might display himself as a fearless bear killer, he was not willing to risk his neck in a confrontation with armed men.

The Missing Prince[]

The band's atrocities eventually reached the ears of Will Treaty, causing the Ranger and his apprentice, Madelyn Altman, to set out to capture the brigands and bring them before Baron Arald's court for trial.

One day, the bandit gang watch a farmer's cart ladened with produce from the tree line, Walter watching from an unknown location. As the cart disappears from outlaw's sight, Walter follows his leader's decision to relax on the soft grass as they wait for midafternoon to set in. As the sun begins setting, the farm cart the bandits had watch make its way to the market returns, once again under the brigands gaze. As the cart disappears from view in a small dip in the road, Barton gestures hurriedly at Walter and Jem, ordering them across the road. Not pointing out to their leader that that they did not require instructions, having performed similar actions at least a dozen times, Walter, wielding a heavy spiked cudgel, and Jem, scurried across the narrow track in a low-crouched position and conceal themselves behind a bush on the road's other side.

After the 'farmer' (actually Will Treaty is disguise) is threatened by Barton and his bearskin cap is pinned to a tree by an arrow shot by Maddie, Barton summons Walter and Jem to his aid, prompting the pair to burst from the shrubbery concealing them and started across the road, brandishing their weapons. However, Jem is near-immediately immobilized by an arrow through his calf muscle. Uncertain how he should act with his partner down, Walter, looking down at Jem, skidding to a halt mid-stride in his indecisiveness, only for the question to be solved by a rock thrown by Maddie with her sling slammed into his head, with only his thick felt cap protecting him from a possibly shattered skull. Reeling in confusion and pain, Walter, knees buckling, crashes unconscious to the road, rendering him incapacitated for the rest of the quick skirmish that followed as he came round to semi-consciousness. After constraining the brigands' leader, Will proceeded to secure Jem's hands behind his back with a thumb cuff while Maddie proceeds to cuff Walter, who, groggy and still partially unconscious as he was from the now bruised forehead, offered no release, gazing owlishly at the part of King's Rangers with a unfocused and bleary gaze as he followed the pair's words. Will proceeds to haul the dazed bandit to his feet, leaving him swaying uncertainly while Will inspected Jem's injuries.

After capturing Donald, Will and Maddie proceed to make their way to Willow Bend Village with their captives shuffling before them, a journey prolonged by Donald and Walter constantly loosing their balance on the road's uneven surface due to their secured hands. Upon arriving at Willow Bend, Walter and his comrades are taken to the town jail to await trail at Castle Redmont, Will advises the constable to use the gang for any unpleasant tasks around the village, which were apparently plentiful. It can be assumed that the bandit gang were set to completing these unpleasant tasks until they were escorted to Redmont for court.
