Malcolm Tillerman was a farmer who's farmstead was located somewhere near Willow Bend Village and who sold his trade during the village market. He was known in the district as a man who drove a hard bargain. When attempting to capture the robber Barton 'Bearkiller' and his band, Will Treaty and Madelyn Altman borrowed Malcolm's cart and mule in order to pose as a farmer taking his products to the market. These products (which consisted of sheaves of wheat and barley, a dozen sacks of potatoes, strings of onions, eight or nine large pumpkins, nine plump, unplucked ducks and two half-grown sheep — a young ram and an ewe), were sold by Will during the market and were passed on to Malcolm with Will's thanks through the constable of Willow Bend Village. Given that he was willing to help Will and Maddie, it is possible Malcolm may have been part of the Corp's network of informants that ranged across the kingdom.
