Iqbal Makali bin Ha'rish was a Tualaghi warrior, and also Yusal's elder brother. Determined to avenge his brother's mental incapacitation and imprisonment by killing Princess Cassandra, Iqbal acted as the leader of the Tualaghi after they were revived. He died after receiving irreparable lung damage inflicted by a steel-headed shaft thrown by Lydia after he made an attempt to attack Selethen, although not before taking the opportunity to gloat to Hal and Gilan that though he was fated to die, his brother would still be avenged, revealing that he had paid the Shurmel of the Scorpion Cult to take a everlasting oath on Cassandra's life that would not be broken by Iqbal's demise.

History[]

Erak's Ransom[]

Iqbal first appears in Erak's Ransom, where he fights in the skirmish in Maashava, and is captured by the Arridi. Almost all the soldiers captured by the Arridi were sentenced to hard labour near Mararoc. However, Iqbal is one of the thirty left behind and imprisoned at Maashava to perform the hard labour necessary in reconstructing the town's wall.

The Genovesan Iqbal hired

Iqbal has escaped his prison and hires two Genovesan Assassins, Mordini and Serafino, to kill princess Cassandra, who's life he had sworn to end, at her wedding. The reason for this being that she had shamed him and his clan, but more importantly, scarred his brother Yusal for life. Fortunately, one of the assassins gets caught and the other is killed. The captured Genovesan gives the Rangers information after Halt threatens him with one of the Assassin's own poisoned bolts. When this is told to Selethen, he says he will make capturing Iqbal a priority when he is back home in Arrida.

The Brotherband Chronicles[]

Scorpion Mountain[]

Having lost two of their best men in the attempt on Cassandra's life and not intending to lose anymore, the Genovesans returned half of Iqbal's fee and took themselves out of the race. Iqbal attempted to bluster and threaten his way through, but quickly shut up when the Genovesans pointed out that they could just as easily mount an assassination on him, which instantly silenced him. Iqbal eventually returned to his homeland and regathered the Tualaghi to their former strength. Still determined to kill Cassandra in retribution for what she had done to his brother (who's incapacitation he had sworn to avenge) Iqbal would eventually found the Scorpion Cult, however, and hired them into his service, paying the Scorpion Cult's Shurmel leader to swear a Tolfah against Cassandra to Imrika, the Cult's goddess and mistress.

Iqbal then returned to his Tualaghi and eventually set his sights on capturing the coastal town of Tabork. Making an alliance with a Hellenese corsair named Philip 'Bloodyhand' and the two criminal leaders formed a partnership to seize the town. Under the dark of night, the two forces struck, seizing Tabork in a two-sided attack, with Iqbal's men attacking the town's inner wall while Philip's corsairs stormed the undefended harbour, killing any who resisted.
