The Hungassi Tribes are a collection of tribes who originate from a land to the south-east of Hallasholm. Due to their major involvement in river piracy, the Hungassi tribesmen have a deep set antipathy towards the Skandians.
History[]
The tribesmen of the Hungassi are river pirates who's lands lie south-east of Skandia and along or near the banks of the Dan. While sailors, the Hungassi lack the skills of seafarers, using small skiffs powered either by sails or oar power to navigate the calm, tame waters of the River Dan and its many smaller tributaries, preying on and running down river traffic. Though unconfirmed, pirates of Hungassi origin might be among the more common visitors of the pirate haven Raguza. The Hungassi river rats often use the pirate haven as an escape route, rowing or sailing up the Dan in their skiffs, hiding along the forested banks, then dashing out to ambush trading fleets on their way to the markets of Drogha, outmanoeuvring and outnumbering them.
Similar to the pirates of Magyara, the Hungassi appear had their own 'raiding season', when their piracy is most active, often darting out from Raguza during the Spring and Summer months to capture merchant ships while remaining less active during the Winter seasons. As pirates of the river, Mannoc and The Seahawk no doubt caused the Hungassi raiders much grief over the years.
Following the beginning of the Skandians policing of the Stormwhite Sea and other bodies of water that served as major areas of trade, the Hungassi, like the Magyarans and many other nations who's main source of income came in from piracy, objected to the Sea Wolves' role as maritime police and guardians and their abandonment of raiding. Subsequently, the Hungassi gained a deep hatred of the Skandians as they began suppressing actions of piracy, theirs' included.
After Wolfwind was stolen, Erak suspected the Hungassi Tribes to be responsible for the theft, although Hal doubts it, unable to see what the Hungassi would want with a Wolfship, as it would be all but useless in their river-raiding operations. This was later proven correct when the Herons discovered that Iberian corsairs under El Despiadado were truly responsible for the theft, the pirates of Iberia intending to discredit the people of Skandia.
