Henry Wheeler was an Araluen criminal who worked for Jory Ruhl as a member of his original gang prior to the scattering of the band. He was killed when he fell on his own dagger while attempting to cut down Will Treaty in a confrontation,

Description[]

Henry was a big man[1] with a beard[2] and shoulder-length blond hair. He wore a wagoner's leather vest, and had a pair of thick gauntlets tucked into his belt[1], alongside the scabbard that held a heavy-bladed dagger[3]. After Will Treaty began to pursue him, Henry's eyes gained the haunted look of the hunted.

History[]

At an unknown point in time, Henry Wheeler turned to a life of crime and joined Jory Ruhl, serving as a member of Jory's original gang. The gang, Henry among them, eventually began operating within the boundaries of Anselm Fief and it's neighbours, praying on and terrorising small villages, all while seemingly evading capture by the Rangers of their targeted provinces, despite being wanted by the law. The band’s primary tactic was to kidnap young members of the settlements communities, then demand ransoms from the victims' parents, actions that often forced the entire hamlet to donate their own savings to the ransom money.

Henry attended a criminal meeting at the Wyvern Inn, only for the brigands received word that a posse of volunteers led by a local constable were marching on the Inn with the intention of ending Ruhl’s reign of fear and terror and bring the kidnappers to justice. As Ruhl and his acolytes made a bolt for it, the volunteer force made their arrival and, in a show of confidence or foolishness, attempted to intervene and apprehend the highwaymen, resulting in a skirmish between the two parties. No doubt knowing that they would eventually be defeated by the overwhelming numbers, Ruhl, accompanied by Henry, set the Inn alight and fled with their friends into the forest.

A New Beginning[]

Will Treaty 10

Will, who had been tracking Henry.

While on the run from Will Treaty, Henry had stopped at Scanlon Estate for a meal. As a visitor, he was forced to pay for his meal.

Much to his horror, Will had followed him to the estate. Will confronts him, revealing that eighteen months earlier, Henry had a part of Jory Ruhl's gang and had both present and part of the fire set at the inn in Anselm Fief where Alyss Mainwaring died.

Wheeler first tried to lie and talk his way out, but, becoming desperate, fought back, attempting to kill Will. The Ranger, however, was too quick and struck back. Dropping his dagger, Wheeler fell on the blade and died.

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown is Henry is related in anyway to Evanlyn Wheeler,
