The Battle of Limmat, fought in the coastal town of Limmat was the main battle of The Invaders.
Using a Skandian trading vessel he had captured earlier, called the "Sea Lion", Zavac tricked the guards into opening the boom, and then managed to enter and capture the town
Hal, on board the Heron, used the Mangler, a giant crossbow, to attack and burn down the wooden towers guarding the towers. This was an attempt to distract the pirates and concentrate their forces on the towers, rather than guarding the palisade, which allowed Svengal and his force of Skandians as well as Barat and his men from Limmat to enter the town unopposed. However, during this attack, Ingvar was injured by an enemy arrow and remained unconscious for most of the remaining battle.
The Skandian force, led by Svengal, used Wolfwind to sail through the marshes to the east of Limmat, and, with the pirates distracted by Hal's attack, broke into the town and fought the pirates in the streets.
The force of Limmatan men, led by Barat, used grappling hooks and rope ladders to scale the palisade, encountering little resistance, as the pirates were largely occupied with the Skandians and Hal's attack. Once inside, they worked their way through the streets before reaching the town square.
Zavac, fearing the battle had been lost, quickly gathered his men and the emeralds and escaped to his ship, the Raven, but not before burning the other two pirate ships, the Stingray and the Viper.
