Bartell was the Ranger of Seacliff Fief before being replaced by Will. He was the one who recommended Edwina as a housekeeper. He was in charge of thinking up tests for Ranger apprentices, which made Will and the other apprentices' lives a misery. He is now working in the Ranger Archives at the Ranger's headquarters at Castle Araluen.
