Baron Ergell was last seen to be the Baron of Seacliff Fief, and has been described to rule an extremely "backward, backwater and relaxed" fief. His banner has been noted to be a stag's head.

Ergell has been said to be slack in his attention to the fief's discipline, having little control or proper training over his Battleschool apprentices and paying little mind until Gundar's crew nearly demolishes the island. His particular attention to his kitchen displays his preference of comfort over security, though this may have changed since the near invasion. As of his last appearance, he resides in Castle Seacliff, which has been described to be a fort with walls barely topping five meters in height and partially constructed of timber with iron brackets.

History[]

The Sorcerer in the North[]

Being in control of the fief's affairs, Will Treaty reports to the castle once he's settled. The Baron, though fairly neutral, made an attempt to claim a hold over Will being attached to Seacliff -- however, Will is prepared for it and successfully creates a segregation between himself and the fief. Will mentions Edwina, the innkeeper, and Ergell admits to have tried to recruit her for his kitchen. As Will leaves the meeting, he awkwardly reminds the Baron to read his credentials, noting that due to protocol, he should have done that immediately.

Later on, when the Skandians are led back to the castle by Will, the Ranger tells him that he'd told Gundar he'd provide them with sheep, bullock and grain. Ergell initially looks to the Battlemaster for help, but he quickly takes the offer and the Baron realizes why as well. He notifies the Kitchen that they were to have a feast with the Skandians, nonetheless slightly puzzled.
