Baron Douglas was the Baron of Highcliff Fief. After it was discovered he had betrayed the Kingdom and the Fief, Douglas was captured by Ranger Gilan and incarcerated for his crimes.
Description[]
Douglas was a tall, overweight, and balding man with blue eyes. In an attempt to compensate for his hair loss, he grew it long on the side. His eyes were close-set, giving him a slightly shifty look.[1]
Unlike most commanders, his sleeping quarters were on the third floor, indicating he was either lazy or careless. Additionally, he spoke loudly, as if he were trying to constantly assert his own importance. Although stopping short of rudeness, his mannerisms were abrupt.[1]
History[]
The Inkwell and the Dagger[]
When Gilan arrived at Highcliff in search of Foldar, Douglas was out hunting. When he returned, the two had a brief meeting discussing Foldar, during which Douglas denied ever having met Foldar.
Suspecting Foldar was planning an ambush on the tax cart and that there was an informant in the Castle, Gilan met with Douglas to arrange for a double bluff.
After killing Foldar, Gilan met with Douglas one last time. Initially pretending Philip had been the culprit, Gilan then revealed the truth--Douglas was the informant. He had given himself away during the second meeting, when he described Foldar's eyes, despite supposedly never meeting him. Douglas lunged for a dagger, but Philip grabbed an inkwell and threw the ink in Douglas' face, blinding him. Gilan quickly drew his sword and arrested Douglas.
Trivia[]
- It is possible that he was one of the barons who supported Morgarath's coup on King Duncan, as Gilan suspicions about Douglas being secretly in league with Morgarath during his war likely proved to be correct.
