History[]

Emperor Shigeru

Emperor Shigeru, who Arisaka lead a revolt against

Arisaka was the Lord of the Shimonseki Senshi clan, the largest and fiercest of all of the various clans that divided members of the Senshi sect as well as the most influential of them all. A man of great influence and prestige among his fellow members of the warrior class, Arisaka eventually became a Swordsmaster and grew to be regarded as one of the finest individual warriors in Nihon-Ja, with rumors circling around him about how the ambitious overlord had killed more than twenty men in duels and even more in the internecine battles that flared occasionally between the rival clans.

When the Emperor before Shigeru died without an heir, Arisaka believed that he should have been made Emperor instead of Shigeru. He then began fostering a whispering campaign for months, spreading rumors and fear among the Senshi that Shigeru was going to take power from them and give it to the common people, which terrified many of the Senshi who, feeling that their class was superior to all, believed their way of life was ending.

Using this belief as his rationalise his treachery under the claim that Shigeru had betrayed his class with his actions, Arisaka convinced his personal clan and another of the more powerful Senshi clans, the Umaki, to rebel by claiming the Emperor had disobeyed an oath by trying to raise up commoners against their betters when he was really just trying to improve the workers lives. The two clans subsequently stormed Ito, killing and scattering the vast majority of the Motodato Clan and Shigeru's other active Senshi supporters and gaining Arisaka dominance over the southern country. Some of the Senshi, being proud and even arrogant warriors, joined in the revolt with Arisaka as their leader.

Arisaka followed Shigeru, who was on the run, towards the legendary fortress of Ran-Koshi, located in northern Nihon-Ja. On the way, Shukin, the cousin of Shigeru, stayed behind at a valley with several men to try and slow down Arisaka's army. However, he was defeated and killed by Arisaka. Shukin, however, delayed Arisaka's forces long enough for his cousin and the Senshi and Kikori to flee across and destroy the only way across a massive gorge, forcing Arisaka to divert his forces to take a long way around, so that when the rebel Senshi arrived, winter was setting in. Arisaka thus laid siege to the valley throughout the winter along with his army, sending a advance part under the command of one of his most ardent supporters, Todoki, to attack Shigeru's band while he and the main body of his army remained behind.

The rebel lord then engaged the help of other Senshi lords such as Yamada by lying to them, saying that an imposter had taken the place of Shigeru and that he was trying to defeat this so-called imposter.

Arisaka was furious after he loses his first attack at the start of the siege.

He was enraged when he was defeated, as Shigeru offered to stand down to end the bloodshed after a series of battles. The Senshi who had rebelled realized how honorable the Emperor was and stand down themselves, leading a chant of the Emperor's name. Blind with fury, Arisaka strikes down the first of the chanters, Matsuda Sato, horrifying his men and obliterating any feeling of loyalty his clan had for him and slanders his followers as cowards and traitors who have defiled his honor with their treachery, only to be told by Will that he has no honor. After Will insulted and goaded Arisaka, he tried to attack Will, charging at the Ranger, but Will killed him with an underarm Saxe Knife throw that hit him in the throat.
